Advisory council

The Advisory Council provides external input to NWAC and provides recommendations as to how NWAC can better further its mission. The Council is made up of individuals who represent the cooperating agencies and organizations that support NWAC as well as individuals representing the various constituent groups that rely on NWAC’s services.

Knox Williams

Former CAIC Director

Knox Williams

Knox worked with the U.S. Forest Service Avalanche Research Project in Fort Collins, CO from 1970-83 as a research scientist and lead forecaster with the USFS Colorado Avalanche Warning Program. In 1983, he helped to found the Colorado Avalanche Information Center and was its Director until retiring in 2005. He spent the winter of 2005-06 as a forecaster with NWAC. He is now fully retired and living in Buena Vista, CO, but still works occasionally as an educator and consultant.

John Stimberis

John Stimberis is the WSDOT Avalanche Forecast Supervisor, covering Snoqualmie, White, and Chinook Passes. John is also the current President of the American Avalanche Association and an Alpental Pro Patroller, where he teaches workshops for the David Pettigrew Memorial Foundation. In his spare time he enjoys live music and running. John currently lives in Seattle, WA.

Oyvind Henningson

Oyvind Henningson

 

Oyvind was born and raised on skis in Norway. He loves the outdoors and sharing his enthusiasm for everything winter. Oyvind is AIARE Level 3 certified and a AIARE Level 1 and 2 instructor. Oyvind is an EMT and rescue technician with the Snohomish County Helicopter Rescue Team and former chair of Everett Mountain Rescue Unit. He now teaches avalanche courses for the Mountaineers and commercial guide companies.

Paul Diegel

Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center Executive Director

Paul Diegel

 

Paul is the Executive Director of the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center. Paul is responsible for communications, marketing, fundraising, and UAC business operations. Paul grew up skiing—racing, competing in the early days of freestyle, and speed skiing.  He has degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, and an M.B.A.. He spent 30 years in technical and business roles focused on biotechnology product development, while skiing at every opportunity and doing a little ski instructing and patrolling. He skis and splitboards in the backcountry and competes in Ski Mountaineering and spends summers trail running, biking, and kayaking.

Patty Morrison

Patty Morrison

Patty Morrison has been in the ski industry for over thirty years. She is AIARE Level 3 certified, an AIARE Level 1 & 2 instructor, and the Northwest representative for the American Avalanche Association. Patty spent 15 years as an Avalanche Forecaster for Stevens Pass Ski Area and now works for their Mountain Education program. She also works with the Stevens Pass WSDOT avalanche crew.

Jeremy Allyn

Jeremy Allyn

Jeremy has a diverse and longstanding background in avalanche education and mountain guiding and has been ski touring in avalanche terrain for over 25 years. He is AIARE Level 3 trained and a Level 1 and 2 course leader. He spent four winters in Alaska's Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains working as an instructor for the renowned Alaska Avalanche School. He has directed avalanche education programs for guide services and was an early proponent of snowpack observation networks in PNW. Jeremy lives in Seattle

Brandy is a Professional Backcountry Snowmobiler, Founder of Annual Ladies Ride, all around powder junky. She is one of the most approachable sledders in the industry. Has been featured in videos, magazines and blogs throughout the US.
