Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Monday

It's a beautiful sunny day all across the mountains with warm temperatures and generally light winds. You can expect very similar conditions on Sunday, with just a bit more of a breeze. A high pressure ridge will keep us warm and dry for the next several days.

Clear skies overnight will allow the surface to cool and develop temperature inversions in the mountain valleys and passes. The jet stream along the front side of the high pressure shifts overhead and causes wind speeds to increase. You'll experience moderate ridgeline and strong and gusty alpine winds overnight and into Sunday morning. Temperatures once again climb quickly during the day, with most sites pushing back above 40F.

The ridge fully shifts east on Sunday night and allows even warmer air to flow into the region. There will be a bit of overnight cooling, but in general freezing levels will be on the rise. Monday will be a full notch warmer than the temperatures we experienced over the weekend. Many weather stations should manage to break into the 50s. Along with the daytime warming, onshore flow increases in the afternoon. This will make the mountains slightly windier. Down-sloping winds should help drive temperatures in the east-side forecast zones slightly higher.

Directions above indicate the direction the wind blows from on the 16-point cardinal scale. These winds indicate "free" winds, or those winds in the atmosphere not influenced by terrain. Topographical effects may produce greater or lower wind speeds in certain locations as well as significant variations in direction.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Wednesday

Our warm dry weather continues into Tuesday as the high pressure ridge very slowly drifts further east. A storm starts to approach the region Tuesday night and Wednesday. Weather models disagree about the timing and strength of this system. However, you should start to see increasing clouds sometime Tuesday night. A cold front eventually arrives and sends snow levels crashing down. At the moment, it's hard to say how much precipitation we'll see. We'll need to keep an eye on this pattern change over the next few days.
