Weather Synopsis for Monday & Tuesday

There are a few flurries out there this morning, but in general, we'll be dry across the mountains to start the day. That will change as a storm system impacts the region for the next 24-36 hours and brings gusty winds, mild temperatures, and periods of heavier precipitation.

An approaching warm front will spread light rain and snow to the Western Olympics this morning. By midday, precipitation slowly works its way inland to Mt Baker and the Mt Loop Highway areas and then drifts southward. Clouds, temperatures, and winds all increase throughout the day and into the evening. Many areas should see gusty moderate to strong ridgeline winds.

Overnight, the storm focuses on the Central Cascades as we sit in the warm sector. Snow levels should hover between 4500 and 5500 ft. Expect precipitation and winds to steadily increase as a trailing cold front approaches the coast. Just before daybreak on Tuesday, the storm will be at its peak. Most locations will see strong and gusty winds along with moderate to heavy precipitation. This will be the best chance for precipitation east of the Cascade crest.

By late morning, the storm should be winding down, and snow levels falling. Post-frontal showers and a Puget Sound Convergence Zone will keep rain/snow falling along the west slopes of the Cascades. Wind speeds should decrease by the afternoon, and you could even see a few sun breaks primarily east of the Crest. While not a big storm, upper elevations in the West Side and Cascade Pass forecast zones could receive 8-12 inches of snow.
