Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Thursday

We'll see the weather pattern change dramatically Tuesday night into Wednesday. Say goodbye to the warm, sunny, spring-like days and say hello to a return to cooler temperatures, cloudy skies, and a bit of precipitation. Expect unsettled weather for the remainder of the week and through the weekend.

Tuesday night, look for clouds to increase across the region ahead of a weakening front. You could see a few showers along the coast and western side of the Olympic Mountains. A low pressure pushing into central BC will drag rain and snow into the region on Wednesday. Most of the precipitation will focus on the Olympics and near the Canadian border in the morning. Eventually, the front sags south, and showers try to reach the Central and Southern Cascades late in the afternoon. For most areas, Wednesday will be dry but cloudy and breezy. The front finally washes out over the mountains Wednesday night with light precipitation near and west of the crest, with just a few showers venturing further east.

There may not be a discernable break in the showers before our second weather system arrives on Thursday. A weak trough and developing surface low approach the coast during the day, spreading rain and snow into the mountains. This storm also seems weak, and without any strong dynamics, precipitation once again struggles to make it past the Cascade crest. While none of these systems are particularly strong, most locations will see at least some precipitation every 12 hrs beginning Wednesday night and into the weekend.

Topographical effects may produce greater or lower wind speeds in certain locations as well as significant variations in direction.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Saturday

Settle in for an extended period of cool and unsettled weather. A developing surface low pushes inland Thursday night and Friday, maintaining showers in the mountains. Most of the precipitation will stay focussed along the west slopes of the mountains, but there should be a brief period of better spillover Thursday night. As the low exits, the PNW sits on the backside of a large open trough Friday night and Saturday. This should provide cool temperatures, a chance of showers, and a few sun breaks in the afternoon. A larger and more organized low pressure system will start to approach the region this weekend and maintain our cool, cloud, and showery pattern.
